San Carlos Shares Winter Storm Guide, Urging Households to Sign Up for SMC Alert

SAN CARLOS — CALIFORNIA58 LOCAL. San Carlos has published a winter storm preparedness guide urging residents to plan for potential heavy rain and flooding. The city emphasizes early preparation rather than waiting until a severe-weather warning is issued.

Community details

The official storm page provides advice on creating an emergency kit, understanding closure notices and finding information about sandbags, power outages and flooding. Residents can monitor cityofsancarlos.org/storm for local updates.

San Mateo County’s SMC Alert system sends location-targeted warnings about weather, evacuations and shelters, while Genasys Protect can help residents identify mapped emergency zones. These tools serve different purposes and may complement one another.

The guidance is a preparedness notice, not a statement that flooding is currently occurring in San Carlos. Drivers should not enter floodwater, and residents should follow current official evacuation instructions if one is issued.
